Help us future-proof rural health – support students on placements across Queensland.

Every year, over 1,000 allied health professionals graduate from UQ having gained practical experience through clinical placements, many in rural and regional Queensland.

Our students value rural placement because of the diversity of cases and patients, the greater responsibility they can have in smaller practices and the open welcome of a grateful community.

However, many students are unable to take up these learning opportunities due to the prohibitive costs of relocation. To take up regional and rural placement, students often need to forgo part-time employment and secure costly secondary accommodation.

Your donation will contribute to student scholarships that alleviate these financial pressures and ensure our brightest students can deliver much-needed health services to regional Queenslanders.

A gift to support rural health scholarships at UQ this Giving Day will empower our students to overcome these financial hurdles and have a positive impact on the health of regional Queensland communities.

Every gift is meaningful.

Earlier this year, third-year Social Work student Naz Nazari received an Allied Health Bursary, thanks to the generosity of donors. Naz undertood a placement at a community organisation in Roma.

“Moving from Brisbane to Roma for my placement was a difficult decision because I had to quit my part-time job, significantly reducing my income. Although I have been fortunate to find alternative work in Roma, I had to work 4 days a week for my unpaid placement and 3 days a week to help cover the cost of living. I had not realised that groceries and other necessities would be so expensive in a rural town,” Naz said.

”Thanks to the bursary, I could afford healthier food and fruits, pay for my fuel and other expenses. I could focus on making the best out of this placement and becoming a good social worker.”

Every gift, large or small, helps UQ and its students to deliver these outcomes for regional Queensland.
