In line with The Queensland Commitment, the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences is striving to deliver opportunities for those who may otherwise be unable to study at UQ. To celebrate 50 years of Human Movement and 15 years of Nutrition Sciences, the school is aiming to create a new scholarship for students facing financial hardship or other obstacles to entry. Through scholarships such as this, we will ultimately help build a stronger and more resilient allied health workforce across Queensland.

Alannah Woodrow is a Master of Dietetics Studies and chose to undertake a placement in Chinchilla. She regards a rural placement as one of the best opportunities a student can take during their studies.
“For me, it has been a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Chinchilla and other local towns such as Miles. By going rural, I have learnt so much more than I could have ever imagined,” Alannah said.
“Being in an unfamiliar environment away from loved ones has been challenging. But that’s part of why I chose to go rural – to personally grow as much as I will professionally. You will only grow when you’re out of your comfort zone.
“Providing financial and accommodation support through a scholarship is really needed to help students interested in taking up a rural placement. I have seen first-hand on this placement that this is the kind of healthcare professionals that rural communities are desperate for: staff that will invest in achieving better outcomes for the community long-term.”
